How to Go from Hanoi to Ha Giang

Go to Ha Giang by motorbikes.

Traveling by motorbike will take much longer than other means, about 8–10 hours to reach Ha Giang. But in return, you will enjoy the rare feeling of conquest and the fantastic scenery of the mountains and forests in the most authentic way. The zigzag and dangerous roads of the Northwest high mountains always bring a strong attraction for speed enthusiasts. By Car

You will see on the way to Ha Giang.

The road from Hanoi to Ha Giang is not too far. But due to the mountain terrain, there will be many steep slopes and abysses, which may contain risks and dangers. Therefore, if you decide to drive by yourself, you must have a firm steering wheel and experience on mountain roads to move safely.

It will take you around 7 hours to reach the destination. You will have two routes to choose from: Highway 2 and Highway 32.

Route 1: Following Highway 2

From the center of Hanoi, follow the Kim Ma direction to the street Vo Nguyen Giap. After about 16km, turn right onto Highway 2A, then onto Provincial Road 131 and Freeway 05. After that, continue following Highway 2B. After 550m on Highway 2B, turn left onto Highway 2C. At the rotation of Highway 2C at Tuyen Quang, turn left at the first crossroad to go onto Highway 37.

After 4.9km on Highway 37, turn left to go through An Hoa Bridge for another 3.9km, then turn right onto Highway 02 at the Health Station of Doi Can. Keep your driving for the next 158km to reach Ban Me-Phuong Thien. At the crossroads of Ban Me, turn right and follow the high road to get to Ha Giang Province.

This route is 285km and takes you around 6 hours to travel. The road is quite large and smooth. So it is suitable for travel by car. Please take note that this route has BOT.

Route 2: Following Highway 32

This one is a little bit longer—295km in distance. Then, you will spend more 7 hours driving to reach your destination.

From Hanoi, you keep driving in the direction of Ton Duc Thang, La Thanh, and Tran Duy Hung and drive through the tunnel Trung Hoa to reach Highway Thang Long. Keep moving for the next 27km and go onto Highway 21. After 20km of moving, you will see a rotation. Follow the third road to enter Highway 32.

You need to turn left onto Highway 32C after 29km of driving. Keep going straight to Ngoc Thap Bridge and follow Provincial Road 320. You can see the Phu Tho vocational college and turn left onto Highway 02. Then keep moving until you reach the rotation and turn left at the first crossroad to enter Highway 37. Then follow the guidelines through Highway 02 as above.

Tips And Notes Before You Start Your Journey

If you choose to drive by yourself, you should keep in mind that you need to have experienced and good driving skills because of the many dangerous and sharp bends on the road.

You should depart in the early morning to ensure your journey will be in the daytime. The daytime will keep you from the fog as well as narrow-seeing bends. You should also watch the weather forecast because the bad weather will make this journey harder.

Don’t forget to bring the driving license, identity papers, and other involved documents. Follow all applicable traffic laws and signs to have a safe and happy journey. Bring enough personal items and medicine for any urgent case.
